Model T Ford

By Emma L., 5th Grade

The invention of the Model T Ford was a turning point in the history of transportation. When Henry Ford first started selling the Model T in 1908, there were only about eight thousand cars on American roads. Back then, the average car, which (w/w) cost $2,500 , was unfortunately (ly) five times more expensive than a worker’s salary per year. Ford launched (voc) the first assembly line in his factory in 1913. It worked by employing (sv) a conveyor belt to pull cars down the line, and workers would fabricate (voc) the car piece-by-piece. By 1914, it only took a brief (qa) ninety-three minutes to build an entire Model T Ford. The rise in the number of cars available meant a decrease in the price. More and more people were finally (ly) able to afford a car, because (bc) it only cost three hundred dollars. From 1917 to 1923, Ford Motor Company sold over fifteen million Model T’s, which was about half of the world’s cars at that time. Transportation was greatly affected by Henry Ford’s invention of the Model T Ford.
