Sydney Hoff is a graduate of Emory University. She scored 780/800 on the writing section of the SATs and has years of experience tutoring university-level students to foster their writing abilities. Sydney performs copywriting and copyediting work for various organizations. She currently runs a business based in New York offering writing services for students from elementary through higher education.

Overview

Join the Brighter Bee Team this summer to enter the National Youth Foundation’s writing contest. The team will create a 20-30 page book that incorporates the theme of local heroines.

Team Composition

Teams will be composed of 10 students enrolled in grades K to 8.

Course Objectives

Participating students will collaborate, divide responsibilities, and develop writing and artistic skills while working towards a meaningful goal.

The purpose of this course is for children to learn to work in a team, engage in creative thought, and strengthen their written skills.

Course Content

Children will be coached by Sydney throughout each stage of the writing process. They will learn how to generate ideas, select story elements, outline their book, draft, revise, and edit – all while collaborating with their teammates.

Course Dates

This course begins in early July.

Contest Details

This contest requires teams to submit a 20-30 page book featuring text and artwork that incorporates the theme of Local Heroines. The winning team will be awarded $500 and their book will be published. You may read more about this contest here.
