Grammar is the system of language, the study of how sentences are constructed, and ultimately, the science which studies a thought process. Understanding grammar affords students precision of thought, a lifelong gift. At RWC, students learn grammar using materials from The Institute for Excellence in Writing’s Fix It! Grammar series.
Because grammar is learned best when rooted in the writing experience, RWC students read passages with grammar mistakes, identify and correct the errors, and then re-write the passages correctly. The goal of the RWC grammar program is not merely to teach students the rules of grammar, but also to ensure that this knowledge consistently transfers to their own writing.
