Overview

This is a small writing class for upper elementary students to learn to write according to the Institute for Excellence in Writing’s Structure and Style methodology.

In this class, students will learn to take notes, retell narrative stories, summarize references, write from pictures, and compose essays. This class will cover Units 1-8 of the nine units in the IEW program. Students will study vocabulary words and practice dress-ups and sentence openers in the IEW program.

This class’s theme is “Fables, Myths, and Fairy Tales.” Students will explore classic children’s tales and Aesop’s fables, exposing them to classic literature while they practice and master fundamental writing skills. While the primary purpose of these lessons is for the children to learn to write, the themed lessons serve to broaden students’ subject knowledge and capture their interest.
